Free Tax Help for the Moreno Valley Community

Moreno Valley College provides free tax preparation services through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and in collaboration with the Riverside County Community Action Partnership (CAP). This service supports our community by helping eligible individuals and families file accurate tax returns and access important tax credits at no cost.

About VITA Services

The VITA program is an IRS-sponsored service designed to assist taxpayers with low to moderate income. At MVC, IRS-certified student volunteers, guided by faculty, offer professional, confidential tax preparation while gaining valuable hands-on experience to students and community volunteers.

Interested in volunteering for an upcoming tax season? Enroll in and complete the non-credit accounting course, ACC-819 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Training, in the winter term.

VITA services are offered at Moreno Valley College during the tax filing season (typically February through April). Dates, times, and location details are updated annually. Appointments may be required. Limited walk-in availability may be offered based on capacity.

Please review IRS Publication 3676-B, which denotes the limitations of the VITA program. In preparation for a VITA visit, bring the following:

  • Valid photo identification
  • Social Security cards or ITINs for all individuals listed on the return
  • All income documents (W-2, 1099, etcetera)
  • Prior year tax return, if available
  • Bank account and routing number for direct deposit
