Spanish for Transfer

About

The Associate Degree for Transfer in Spanish is intended to satisfy the lower division requirements for a bachelor's in Spanish at a CSU by developing not only high-intermediate language skills in listening, reading, speaking, and writing but also an understanding and appreciation of Hispanic cultures.

Overview

This is an 18 unit program of study, not counting general education transfer requirements. Students may choose to fulfill the CSUGE or IGETC general education pattern requirements depending on where they plan to transfer to.

About Program Maps College Catalog

California Community Colleges offer associate degrees for transfer to the CSU. These may include Associate in Arts (AA-T) or Associate in Science (AS-T) degrees. These degrees are designed to provide a clear pathway to a CSU major and baccalaureate degree. California Community College students who are awarded an AA-T or AS-T degree are guaranteed admission with junior standing somewhere in the CSU system and given priority admission consideration to their local CSU campus or to a program that is deemed similar to their community college major. This priority does not guarantee admission to specific majors or campuses.

Students who have been awarded an AA-T or AS-T are able to complete their remaining requirements for the 120-unit baccalaureate degree within 60 semester or 90 quarter units. To view the most current list of Moreno Valley College Associate Degrees for Transfer and to find out which CSU campuses accept each degree, visit I Can Go to College. Students are encouraged to meet with a MVC counselor to review their options for transfer and to develop an educational plan that best meets their goals and needs.

Students will develop not only high-intermediate language skills in listening, reading, speaking, and writing but also an understanding and appreciation of Hispanic cultures.

Upon successful completion of this program, students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills in Spanish by interpreting and articulating ideas, questions, opinions and information at the high-intermediate level, both orally and in writing.
  • Analyze the practices, products and perspectives of the Spanish-speaking countries and peoples throughout the world through a comparison of Hispanic cultures and their own.

Associate Degree Program Map

Program maps provide suggested courses to take term-by-term based on your desired degree or certificate award. Academic counselors can customize your educational plans to meet your transfer and career goals.

This program can be completed in 2 years, or 4 semesters (fall/spring). Students can decrease their semester course load by taking some required classes during the winter and summer terms instead. Some courses are only offered in the spring term.

Program completion within this time frame is dependent on the number of units enrolled per term and course availability. Full-time students are recommended to take 12-15 units per term. Meet with a counselor to develop your Student Educational Plan (SEP), determine the appropriate general education pattern and work/life/school balance.
