iMAKE Innovation Center to Host Virtual Summer STEAM Camps
Moreno Valley College's iMAKE Innovation Center will be host two Virtual Summer STEAM Camps. The camps are free. The Virtual STEAM Camp is open to children of all ages, while the Women in STEAM Camp is available to incoming/outgoing 3rd to 5th grade girls. Workshops will be facilitated virtually through Zoom by iMAKE Innovation Center Makerspace staff and makerspace student employees.
The Women in STEAM Camp will take place July 27 from 10 am-2:30 pm. There will be a contactless STEAM distribution kit pickup on July 21 from noon to 4 pm at the College's Krameria Street turnabout. The Camp will include three workshops — Engineering Principles with Bridge/Truss Design; Micro:Bit Simulation Coding; and TinkerCAD/3D Design. The STEAM Kit is needed for the Engineering Bridge/Truss Design workshop.
The second virtual STEAM camp is a two-day event and open to participants of all ages. Our intention is to engage students, teachers, parents, and/or community members, said Joseph Murray, laboratory technician for the iMake Innovation Center.
There will be four workshops, two taking place each day. Day 1 workshops include a Micro:Bit Simulation Coding and a Music/Sound and Phonograph Design and Build. The following day, there will be workshops on Genetics/DNA and TinkerCAD/3D Design.
A kit is required for two of the workshops. Kits will be available for pickup on July 28-29 from noon to 4 pm at the College's Krameria Street turnabout.
"We are looking forward to sharing these opportunities with interested students, parents, teachers, or community members who have an interest in learning about STEAM topics with interactive workshop activities for participants and hearing from education and industry STEAM guest speakers," Murray said. "Participants may register for both camps since workshop themes for both camps will be a different theme topic to allow for participants to attend both camps.
Virtual tickets are limited for each camp and workshop, so register early. To register for the Women in STEAM Camp (3rd to 5th grade girls) on July 27, click here. Click here to register for the two-day STEAM Camp (all ages) on August 2-3.
