About

Hello there! I am Rikki, the newest full-time professor in Communication Studies here at Moreno Valley College.

I obtained my bachelor's and master's in Communication Studies at California State University, Fullerton, where I focused on relationships, sexuality, and humor. My journey continued with a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Communication Studies from Arizona State University, where I delved into performance, sexual violence prevention, environmental communication, and art-based and qualitative research.

Growing up as a neurodivergent person, I navigated challenges with shyness and anxiety, which still influence me in social settings today! Through my academic journey, I've learned the power of practicing communication skills in managing these challenges. Now, I'm committed to helping students, especially anyone who just feels different, develop effective communication strategies to navigate both professional and personal aspects of their lives.

As a professor, my goal is to create a safe and inclusive learning environment where all students feel supported. I strive to provide practical tools to improve relationships, succeed in the workplace, and express oneself authentically.

Outside of academia, I find joy in playing Magic: The Gathering, weightlifting, attending plays and performances, and reading good books. I look forward to meeting you!
