Anya-Kristina Marquis in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem while helping remove barbed wire fencing
Anya holds up barbed wire in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem during a 2022 project to expand a wildlife migration corridor by removing the barbed wire fencing to allow Pronghorn and other ungulates to migrate to warmer regions for food and survival during the cold winters.

I have been teaching full time at Moreno Valley College since fall, 2013. Prior to joining MVC as a full time professor, I was a public high school teacher for 10 years. I attended UCLA for undergrad, where I earned a degree in Geography, with an emphasis in Biogeography. I later earned a MA in Geography from CSU Fullerton and I also have a teaching credential from CSU San Bernardino.

I am passionate about physical geography and enjoy exploring human-environment relationships. I have been fortunate to do field work in the tropical forests of Central America on small mammal density and diversity, in Southern California gathering data on wildfire ecology, and most recently I have spent time working in Maui and Yellowstone National Park with a non-profit organization, learning how to track ocean-plastics, document coral reef health and study bison. I love my job and am grateful that I get to work with students at MVC and share my love of Earth’s processes and systems with students!
