About
The Associate Degree for Transfer in Geography is intended to satisfy the lower division requirements for a bachelor's in geographic science at a CSU by developing an in-depth awareness and understanding of Earth’s natural environment and processes, culture, politics and economics for the globalized world in which we live. The Associate in Arts for Transfer in Geography program allows students to complete lower division courses in preparation to pursue a bachelor's.
Choose the courses that fulfill your transfer and educational goals. Suggested courses may vary to fulfill general education (GE) pattern requirements.
Moreno Valley College offers associate degrees for transfer, guaranteeing admission as a junior to a local CSU or UC with an aligned bachelor degree program.
Overview
This is a 19 to 20 unit program of study, not counting general education transfer requirements. Students are recommended to fulfill the CalGETC general education pattern requirements if planning to transfer to a UC or CSU.
- With CalGETC Requirements: MAA759
This program can be completed in 2 years, or 4 semesters (fall/spring). Students can decrease their semester course load by taking some required classes during the winter and summer terms instead. Some courses are only offered in the spring or fall terms.
Program completion within this time frame is dependent upon math placement, the number of units enrolled per term, and course availability. Full-time students are recommended to take 12-15 units per term. Meet with a counselor to develop your Student Educational Plan (SEP), determine the appropriate general education pattern, and figure out how to maintain a work/life/school balance.
Upon successful completion of this program, students should be able to:
- Identify and understand critical environmental, cultural, and social challenges of the past, present and future, at a variety of scales and use that knowledge to navigate life and career.
- Utilize resources, field equipment, spatial technology, and map data to research and identify various ways of understanding geographic patterns, challenges, problems and solutions.
- Analyze culture, society and the natural environment from a geographic perspective, with emphasis placed on regional patterns and the geographic theme of location.
Not all courses may be available in every term. Plan out your classes according to when they are offered.
