What is Umoja?

The Umoja at Moreno Valley College program is dedicated to increase the number of educationally underserved students who enroll in our institution, to earn their degrees, transfer to a four-year college or university, and return to the community as leaders and mentors for future generations.

Why should you apply to Umoja Community at MVC?

Umoja Community at MVC offers the following services to participants:

Who is eligible to apply for Umoja Community at MVC?

To be eligible to apply for Umoja Community at MVC you must meet all of the following:

  • Be enrolled Part-Time (Less than 12 units but more than 3 units) or Full-Time (12 or more units) during the semester you are accepted into Umoja Community at MVC
  • Complete the Umoja Community at MVC application by the first three weeks of each semester.
  • For new students: Have zero units and/or for continuing student have a 2.00 Cumulative GPA or higher.
  • Attend a total of four workshops and/or other MVC workshops (two must be Umoja Community at MVC workshops).
  • Completed a Comprehensive Student Educational Plan (CSEP) or 1 Semester Educational Plan with a Umoja Community at MVC Counselor at MVC within the first semester of attendance.

 

How do I apply for Umoja Community at MVC?

Student

Applications for each fall and spring semester are available online, download it now.

  • Complete the Umoja Community at MVC application by the first three weeks of each semester.
  • Be a current MVC student, Assessment, Orientation and One Semester Educational Plan.
  • You must enter MVC as your home college
  • If applicable: Complete the Math and English assessment tests, see the Assessment Center site
  • Attend the mandatory Umoja Community at MVC Orientation (see our home page under important message for date).
  • Apply for Financial Aid through www.fafsa.ed.gov
  • Complete a Comprehensive Student Educational Plan (CSEP) or 1 Semester Educational Plan with a Umoja Community at MVC Counselor at MVC by the first semester of attendance.

 

What happens after I apply for Umoja Community at MVC?

You will be notified via email whether you are eligible to participate in Umoja Community at MVC. If you are eligible to participate in Umoja Community at MVC, you must: Attend the mandatory Umoja Community at MVC New Student Orientation. For additional information, please call (951) 571-6446.
