"Remembering our Past. Celebrating our Present. Looking towards our Future.”
The Riverside Community College District’s vision for increased multi-culturalism materialized in 1992 with the addition of the MVC Gospel Singers. Under the direction of Gregory Thomas, the focus of the class is to expose students to all facets of gospel music, training in an atmosphere that celebrates diversity. This group has brought together many cultures to form a unique gospel sound. The Singers’ most inspirational experiences include the following:
- Recording two CDs with the Collegiate Gospel Choir Fellowship
- Traveling to Sendai, Japan, performing concerts for the city, the Miyagi Gakuin Women's College and the Tohoku Fukushi University
- Performing with 22 choirs in Europe hosted by the University of Rome, performing twice before Pope John Paul II.
- Touring Las Vegas, Nevada, performing at the Board Meeting for the Gospel Music Workshop of America (2004 and 2010), giving concerts for Mountain View Christian School and Unity Baptist Church.
The Gospel Singers made their acting debut on November 17, 1996, when they appeared on national television on America's Funniest Home Videos. They performed the show's theme song and comedy with Bob Sagat. The Singers also appeared in a theatrical production of Antigone at the Mt. San Jacinto Community College. The choir has been featured at the Heritage Music Foundation, under the direction of Dr. Margaret Pleasant Douroux, an internationally known gospel music composer.
