Community and College Feedback

A successful Comprehensive Master Plan (CMP) can only be developed with critical input from students, faculty, staff, administrators and community members. We want to hear from you.

You are welcome to read highlights about our strategies and planning process to leave planning feedback, to leave general feedback on any topic, or to view public comments.

Our feedback forms are fully anonymous and a maximum of four questions.

What is the Comprehensive Master Plan?

The Comprehensive Master Plan (CMP) is a long-term vision that identifies the methods and resources required to address the needs of MVC students, the College, and community.

As a form of strategic planning, the CMP helps the College set goals, decide on actions to achieve those goals, and assists us in adding and mobilizing the resources needed to achieve our strategic vision.

 

What is our strategic vision?

Moreno Valley College is committeed to exceeding the expectations of students, community, faculty, and staff by providing and expanding opportunities for learning, personal enrichment, and community development.

The strategic vision guiding the CMP are informed by our institution's strategic goals:

  5. Institutional effectiveness and resources

 

Planning Alignment and Areas of Focus

Three core components form the CMP: a strategic vision, an education plan, and a facilities plan. While the education and facilities plans serve to address both instructional and physical needs of the college and its students, the strategic vision defines actionable goals and objectives. The alignment of our institutional plans and strategic vision is integral to creating a comprehensive, data-driven, long-term plan to support the needs of, guide, and provide accountability for Moreno Valley College.

The strategic vision, education plan, and facilities plan inform and support the Comprehensive Master Plan.

What is educational planning?

Educational planning guides the College's decision-making and gauges MVC's ability to address student needs as an institution of higher learning.

MVC approaches educational planning from a student-first perspective. From the success of our students and programs of study, to how we perform in economic and education contexts on local, regional, and national scales, educational planning allows us to evaluate and identify the methods by which MVC can continue to provide students opportunities for learning and success.

Programs and Support Services

Moreno Valley College's ability to fulfill the educational needs of a hugely diverse student and community population is primary focus of the Comprehensive Master Plan. We offer a range of programs of study and student support programs designed to meet both workforce demands and lessen the student equity gaps through academic, personal, professional, and financial support.

MVC's programs of study are designed to prepare students to enter the workforce, to pursue further education, and meet workforce demand. Student support programs provide extra assistance to historically underserved populations, lessen student equity gaps, and increase student success and completion rates.

Questions to Consider
  • Do Moreno Valley College's existing programs of study lead to stable employment post-graduation?
  • Do degree and certificate offerings reflect the workforce needs of and job availability in the local, regional and national economies?
  • Are students adequately prepared to enter the workforce or for further education by existing programs?
  • Should any programs of study by added, removed, updated, or expanded?
  • Are support programs equitably addressing the unique needs of the student population?
  • Should any support programs be added or removed to further lessen student equity and achievement gaps?

Space Utilization

Space capacity/load analysis enables an institution to identify the types of space it needs and the types of space it holds in excess. Space utilization categories include classrooms, office space, library space, and useable/assignable spaces such as lobbies, interior traffic areas, restrooms and maintenance spaces.

  • Is there enough space available to meet the demands of students, instruction, support programs, and employees?

Considerations

To ensure our students and region are served equitably and lawfully, MVC must make special considerations according to student needs, demographics, state and national laws, and workforce requirements.

  • What kinds of programs and support services should MVC focus on, create, or augment to serve state and local populations?
AB 705: Changes in Student Assessment

AB 705 is a bill signed by the Governor on October 13, 2017 that took effect on January 1, 2018. The bill requires that a community college district or college maximize the probability that a student will enter and complete transfer-level coursework in English and math within a one year timeframe and use, in the placement of students into English and math courses, one or more of the following: high school coursework, high school grades, and high school grade point average. Integrated Decision-Making

MVC uses integrated decision-making to inform our strategic plans by taking in to account statistical data and the input of students, faculty, staff, administrators and the community; promoting collboration; being transparent; incentivising long-term efforts over short-term results; reviewing outcomes; and engaging stakeholders.

What is a facilities plan?

A facilities plan is a document that describes an organization's facilities, which include buildings, space, landscape, utilities, accessibility, and transportation accomodations, the purpose of said facilities, and outlines goals and plans for the future.

Our goals for facilities planning within the CMP include...

  • Tie space needs, program needs, and enrollment/staffing determined in the Education Plan to the physical, built environment
  • Craft strong goals and principles that assist the College in decision-making in the future
  • Project priority list with costs estimates, timelines, and funding strategies

  • Does facilities, grounds, and maintenance have adequate work room and easy access to important campus systems?
  • Is there enough organized storage space on campus for supplies, tables, chairs, and other resources?
